It was a sad day on Saturday for Singapore when the person who penned our Singapore Pledge was laid to rest. A State Funeral was held at the Esplanade and I was there pay my last respect to him. It's sad to know that I only knew about him being the one who wrote our Singapore Pledge only after he died. Such is life, that we take things for granted when the person is alive. As I was attending Mass on Saturday, tears filled my eyes as I pondered on Mr S Rajaratnam's love for his wife. He has been living alone for almost 16 years without his wife and we always think that when a person died, he can join his spouse in heaven or in the other world. But it's not true, for I was taught that when we finally reached heaven, we actually won't know who is the person next to us, even if that person has been our closest during our lifetime. My heart sank as I pondered on this and suddenly, that sudden urge to cherish the time spent with my love ones.
Life doesn't happen twice, cherish it. I'm fortunate to have known you all, my family, Cindy and all my friends out there. Let's keep this life going till the end of our time.
Some pictures I took when I was at Esplanade during the late S Rajaratnam's State Funeral

This was the vehicle that took Mr Rajaratnam's cortege from Parliament House to Esplanade. They used a black cloth to cover it after Mr Rajaratnam's coffin was brought into Esplanade.
You may wonder why I didn't take the picture of his casket when it went passed me. I was saying my prayers for him.
I hope what I was taught is wrong and you can be reunited with your wife in heaven.
Bye Sir, Rest in Peace.
