Hopelessly not interested...

Sometimes it's not our fault that we stereotyped the EM3 pupils of being lazy, disinterested, etc... anything negative. But then, how they behaved really proved to me once again that they are really who we stereotyped them as! No matter how hard i try to stay calm, i couldn't stopped myself from shouting at them. But it was pointless shouting. They either don't care or continue doing what they are not supposed to do. After Art class, I made a few rotten apples stayed back and i spoke to them nicely. But i can conclude that they are just not interested in school, not even Art, which is a non-exam subject. Maybe this is not their fault, maybe just because they don't have family support, no rules at home, hence, the kind of behaviour they bring to school everyday. Sigh, how long can i stand this bunch!

The coming week...

In church today, I was praying for a good week ahead and let me tell you what I was praying for...For the coming week, I hope I will have a goal for each day so that I won't dread having to face each tiring day!

For tomorrow, I hope I will be more patient to any nonsense which I may encounter in my work (esp. the negative studying attitude of my P5 class!) ! I hope I will not have to scream and shout at them, most importantly, I should stop throwing things around! Next...when I enter my EM3 Art class, I also wish I will not have to face pupils who are disinterested towards anything which I want them to do. There are a few of them whom are in my football team. And let me say that their attitude towards playing football and art is surely...WORLDS APART! They are so serious and attentive when it comes to football but Art...sigh ya...just not interested. For my Art class, I am currently teaching them how to design a poster. There are about 10 different designs which I have created on ppt and I really hope they can follow the steps which I am teaching them, not just anyhow draw on the drawing board! The topic which I have been doing is "Dengue Fever Prevention".

The day I threw the books...

It was a bad Friday. Was trying this project to help improve the P5 comprehension. Only 3 classes have the privileged to be helped, i told the kids. So they feel privileged? Nah, i don't think so. Their attitude towards studying is that bad even after different things are brought into the class to help them get interested in Chinese.. Just let me explain how this project works- a passage was used and cut out into different paragraphs. They will need to arrange the paragraphs correctly. Thereafter, they will need to come up with questions based on the 5W(Why, what, where, when, who) and 1H(How).

This project was a group work thingy and after forming them into groups, some were enthusiatic while some gave me the "boring" expression. It was not long before some group got on my nerves. Everyone was supposed to take their turn to read out 1 paragraph of the passage to the whole group. Some didn't read, saying they don't know how to read. I said, just pass those words which you don't know how to read. Still, they read out very unwillingly.

When i revealed the correct positions of all the cut-out paragraphs, some pupils were teasing other groups for getting the sequence wrong. It got so heated that this boy looked like he was wanting a fight! I screamed at him and told him, "there's no prize for getting the correct answer! why do you have to be so kiasu!" Really frustrating when you see 2 extremes in the class- 1: totally bochap your class, 2:those who get too engrossed and become kiasu.

When it comes to them having to come up with question, they were quite lost. Frankly speaking, it was tough for them. They didn't know how to phrase their question even though i gave them the much needed guide. But it still got me frustrated when they can't even give me simple thing. Pupils were beginning to get restless and when I was reading out some groups' questions, pupils were talking and making fun of their friends.

I shouted and told them, "it looked a waste of my time here trying to help all of you with this project. I can't let all of you do "zuo ye" or "ting xie" correction and here i am trying to help you all in your comprehension but you all are not appreciative!" 1 boy shouted and said "yeah, waste of our time." The nerves broke and the monster came out of me....

I THREW ALL THEIR ZUO YE and TING XIE on the floor!

The class was in absolute silence. I left the classroom, went back to my desk. One colleague asked what happened and she went to the class to scold the kids. At the end of the day, the boy who said "waste of our time" came to apologise after his form teacher found out about the matter. He wrote me an explanation letter and I forgave him.

I know I was wrong to throw my tantrum. But I simply can't help it. They really drive me up the wall.

Jacky Concert
Jacky Cheung wrote this song for his kid. First heard this song during his concert. Finally got my hand on this album "Life is like a dream". It was produced in 2004, and all the songs are written by Jacky.

Busy Week

Work has been really hectic this week. So many things are happening! Last Thu just had the P1 & 2 Singing and Poetry Recitation Competition. I coached my P2 kids to sing the er ge "Wa Wa Guo" and bought toy machine guns and helmet for them! I was so pleased to have got all the props for the kids. They definitely enjoyed the performing with the props! But sadly, they didn't win. Not even in the top 3! Sigh... But i told them they are already Ye lao shi's champion! As usual, i was busy taking photos of all the classes' performances. All 150plus photos i have taken!

This Fri is Racial Harmony Day. I am still in the midst of preparing for it. The topic for the day is Christianity. Well, actually the Chinese teachers are doing Buddhism too but i'm overall in-charged of Christianity. As i'm a Christian, i volunteered to find all the infos abt Christianity and the other Chinese teachers only need to paste the infos on the boards that are going to be on display. I've been getting props (yes, props again!) for the mock(fake) church that is going to be displayed in the hall. It's alot of things really. So tired...tomorrow will get all the stuffs ready and start to decorate the hall. Fri please come fast and get over fast!

Sat I will be following my P5 to the NE Show! YEah! I have not been to NE show for the past 2 years! The last time was with 2004 507 class. This time will be extra special because it is the first time it will be held at the Marina Waterfront. Guess it will be very exciting! Just hope the kids will be on their best behaviour and not give ME any TROUBLE!!! Hehe...

Let me finish this entry with the discipline in my P5 class. There's this boy(I should call him CQ lah) who always like to talk loudly and comment about anything while I'm teaching. And whenever I scold him, he will said "sorry lao shi, i know i'm wrong, forgive me, i'll never do it again"(in Mandarin) But then, he always says that and he still don't stop his nonsense. So yesterday, I gave him the....BETA FORM! Haha... After that, he ask me if he behave well, will i not give record his name in the Beta form. I told him ok, if he behaves, I will tear away the Beta form that has been given to him. So yesterday Supp. class and today lesson, he was super quiet and obedient! Haha... tomorrow we shall see, then decide if i should withdraw his beta form!

New Semester

The new semester is already into it's 2nd week. I got a shock when I was informed just before school reopens that I will not be teaching my P4 class anymore. Instead, I will be taking 6 other classes Art. Art?! To be honest, I have been quite good with Art since young and has always been interested in doing Art. But I have not gone through any Art teaching course! So it is with a mixture of excitement and uncertainty when I know I will be taking Art until the end of the year. If you ask me how's my Art lesson so far, I can say it has been FUN! The pupils have been doing ceramics under the guidance of this group of artists hired by the school. I did mugs and shoes with the pupils. The only headache is my P5 EM3. Aiyoh, they all don't mingle with each other peacefully and after they finished scupturing their clays, they will make a mess out of the toilet! They love to disturb their classmates and always get into arguement with each other. Don't know why they must treat each other like enemies! Really cannot tahan them!

I did a powerpoint on how to make poster too. This I find doing it quite interesting because when I was in school, my teacher never really teach us the correct way to design a poster. Teachers always tell us : "Just draw whatever that is relevant and remember to write a BIG headline a the center of the poster!" My theme for my first poster making is - Dengue Fever. I told the kid I want creative poster, not one that you can always see around our community, you don't have to necessarily draw a Aedes mosquito on your poster, you can put you favourite idol on the poster (say...Christina Aguilera!) and add a headline - "If you let them breed, you may not see her anymore!" The pupils were quite excited when I told them they can put anything on their poster. Kids... I guess they love the extraordinary thing... hope next week they can come up with exciting and creative headline and contents for their posters...fingers'crossed!

As I'm only taking P5 & P2 class now, I have more time and energy to......PUNISH & SCOLD them! Haha...evil grin! Especially my P5 class. In class, everytime 1 fellow talks, I will stop. I think last time I can tolerate pupils talking but NOT NOW! Haha! Because I only need to scold my P5 now! I have more energy now! Wahahaha.... On Tue, some pupils play truant by not attending my Supplementary class. I threatened to give them the BETA form unless they provide me a good explanation and a letter from their parents. Until now, only 1 still haven't given me the letter. No more am I going to give them chance! On Tue too, I made 2 P5 pupils follow me to my P2 class after their Supp. They were secretly doing their Zuo Ye while I was teaching so when I finished my class, they handed up their Zuo Ye to me. So I told them it is useless, follow me to my P2 class! Ok, you may think I am a sadist, but to be honest, this P5 class really need to buck up. Only 7 passes during SA1 you know. I really need to help them pass their Chinese. That's why I need to be very strict with them from now on!

Phew, so much updates in one go! Tired now, update my life asap! Ciao!
