It's been awhile since I talked about the S-League. I know not many Singaporeans actually care about it and some even despise their own domestic league. All I can say is, if Singaporeans are not bothered with their own stuffs, then who else will?
This season, each teams have played around the average of 8 games and how pleased am I to see the Young Lions sitting pretty at the top of the table. I was at their home ground, the Jalan Besar Stadium, last Friday, to watch them beat Woodlands 4-2. Just as I was about to walk towards the ticketing booth to purchase my ticket to watch the match, a pleasant surprise welcomed me in the form of a brudder passing me a "Complimentary" ticket to have access into the stadium!
It was definitely a pulsating game which saw the Young Lions leading 3-0 with a hattrick from our young and rising star, Khairul Amri. Watch out for him, he is definitely the fastest improved player since Tiger Cup 2005.
During the half time break, I met my current pupils as I was walking back to my seat. I followed them to where they were sitting and I met their parents. One of the parent, I must say, is definitely a local football enthusiast! He enrolled both his sons to the CDC Freekick Programme with the Young Lions and is actively involved with the football community. Singapore needs more parents like him if we are to succeed as a footballing nation! His wife was there and I can see that even though she don't really know much about football, she is surely doing her part to support her husband and kids for their love with football!
Today's S-League result : Tampines 3-2 Balestier
Tampines has not done well so far as they seem to be conceding the odd goal here and there. This has certainly given other clubs hope of preventing them grabbing a hattrick of S-League title this season.
For my readers who are not clear about the S-League, we have 1 team from Japan, Albirex and a locally formed team but consist of all African players (Sporting Afrique), which is managed by former TCS actor, Colin Chee.
