I believe most of you have owned a bata school white school before. We've grown up together with Bata, before school terms start, we will always bug our parents to bring us to Bata to buy the latest Bata shoe. I still remember one model called BMX 2000 if I'm not wrong. It was the cooliest shoe then because at our age, Bata was "the brand" to wear. I grew up in a Bata shop, because my mum owns a Bata shop. I will always hang around the shop and the shops in the surrounding areas after my class in kindergarten. I remembered I will always use the shoe lace as noodle and pretend to fry them in a pot! Thanks to my mum, I always get to wear the best shoes too! She only has to take any pair that I like from the shop! Shiok right?!
What prompted me to come out with this entry? In Today newspaper, I saw this ad featuring Bata's 75th anniversary. It showcase the history of Bata and I couldn't believe it when I realised Bata was from Czechoslovakia!? And I always thought it was a local company! It was founded by Tomas Bata, who was obsessed with shoes, in 1895. It was in the city of Zlin in Czechoslovakia that Tomas Bata opened his first shop and later on, opening up factories and offices around the globe.

Bata arrived in Singapore in 1931, with a Bata Shoe store in the present Capitol Building. 8 years later, Bata building was opened along North Bridge Road and remained a well-loved landmark in Singapore.
